I have been a patient of acupuncture for 26 years. I am amazed at the transformative powers of acupuncture and the many changes in my own life. A spiritual experience in 2002 led me to begin a new journey and I enrolled in acupuncture school. In the winter of 2006, I received a Master of Acupuncture degree from Tai Sophia Institute, now called Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH), I studied five-element acupuncture with Diane Connolly and Bob Duggan, Lonny Jarrett, Angela and John Hicks and Elisabeth Rochat de la Valle. In 2010, I completed the Wholeheart Acupuncture Series with Thea Elijah, a 2 year, five-element acupuncture intensive.
In addition to schooling at Tai Sophia, I have received specialized acupuncture training in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), Classical Chinese Medicine from Jeffrey Yuen, Alex Tiberi, Robert Chu, Richard Tan, Jack Daniel, and facial rejuvenation with Mary Elizabeth Wakefield, and Michelle Gellis. I have studied Zero Balancing from Fritz Smith, MD and Bob Brown.
I received addiction and detoxification training and auricular acupuncture training from Michael O. Smith, MD; Peter Marinakis PhD; and David Wurzel Lac and auricular training from Terry Oleson, PhD. I have studied Chinese herbs with Alex Tiberi, Thea Elijah, Steve Kaufman, and Bob Shapiro and Western herbs with James Duke, PhD, Simon Y. Mills, and Michael Gaeta.

"One of the most satisfying experiences I know is fully to appreciate an individual in the same way I appreciate a sunset. When I look at a sunset…I don’t find myself saying, ‘Soften the orange a little more on the right hand corner, and put a bit more purple along the base, and use a little more pink in the cloud color…’ I don’t try to control a sunset. I watch it with awe as it unfolds.”

I have studied alternative, indigenous and native healing modalities and philosophies for the past 20 years with teachers and elders from various traditions such as Lakota, Anishinabe, native healers from the rain forest and Buddhism. In addition, I have studied plant spirit medicine, as well as energetic medicine and have completed Level One and Level Two of Spring Forest Qigong.
My teachings combine a Native American spiritual path with the eastern philosophy of Taoism. Awaken the Spirit LLC follows my vision and my dream: that we are all connected; everything in the universe is related. The Lakota term is Mitakyue Oaysin, All my relations. We must all work together to make life on earth a more peaceful and healthier planet to reside on. This philosophy begins with each of us as individuals, accepting responsibility for our destinies. It is my privilege to work with each of you.
